Toddler talk : I am ashamed..

The other day, when I was FBing, Liya peeked into my screen. Someone had shared below photo in some page and I was reading the message underneath. Upon seeing that Liya asked me in a soft sobbing voice "Momma is that baby hungry?"

I told her "Yes, Baby is hungry." Then she asked "Doesn't that baby have any  food?"

I was so touched by that conversation. For a moment I turned speechless. Even a two year can lose her heart at such a sight, but how much do we? We all are born with such a tender heart, but where did we lose it?

Well, I told her there are numerous less fortunate people around us, many of them don't even get proper food for once in a day. Many babies don't have all that you've got.  You're so blessed. So we should try to help everyone we see in need.

I don't know how much she understood my lecture(..lol). But for many days she had that picture on her mind and she kept reminding me.

  1. You're right Nishana, where did we lose our heart? How can we see such a tragedy and often do nothing.
Great lesson to remember from your little one.

  2. It is so good to teach charity and compassion, even at her age. And it is awesome that she is able to have such a tender heart.

  5. I grew up overseas and my parents did charity work, and they took me (and my siblings) with them on a lot of their trips and programs. So I got to not only see a lot of that, but also was able to reach out to others from an early age. I think those experiences have stuck with me my whole life, and have helped shape who I am today. So yes, I believe a little child not only feels for others, but can be taught to do something (even something little) about it, put their feelings into action, and when they grow up, they will be a better person because of it! Good post!

  6. We do maybe toughen up too much as we get older. It's always good to be reminded of your blessings, and always a great lesson for our youngest ones...great post!

  7. It breaks my heart when kids say things so obviously simple...like, "That person needs help...why is no one helping him?" and then we have to explain the reality of how the world works. I would love to protect my children forever, but it's just impossible. All we can hope is that they never lose that sense of compassion and that we can continue to be good role models for them. Beautiful, heartwrenching post. Thank you so much for sharing.
