Search for Pre schools in Hyderabad...

I have heard so much and so much about the difficulties in finding a pre school in Indian metros. It's not that India has got very less options but we have more schools than the no. of kids in the entire city, I guess...lol! At every corner of cities, you will be bombarded with millions of billboards, advertisements, fake promises and some sugar coated words like 'holistic approach, child friendly, learning through fun, credibility, vast experience, excellent teachers etc etc. But the more you enquire you will know how far they live from their promises...

We have been in school hunt for a few weeks now. We wanted to admit Liya in playgroup- which is suppose to be 'no learn only play' period, for 2-3 hours a day. I was quite surprised to know that the concept of 'education' itself has changed end to end. I was under the impression that playgroups are for children above three. I was wrong, Playgroup was for kids from 1.5 to 2.5 years old!!! So, Liya would fall in the nursery category- 2.5 to 3.5 years. 3.5 - 4.5 old it would be junior kindergarden and 4.5- 5.5 it is senior KG.

Most of the Indian parents want their kids to start 'mugging up' from the age of 2. So, many schools I bumped upon were promising me to 'not only teach her to read and write... but also..'. I had to say goodbye from the very first enquiry about them. Well, I don't want my kid to be a mugging-vomiting parrot. Just want her to be what she is. So, we had a set of criteria to ensure that we would end up in at least 'closely matching' school.

I have spent hours and days reading parents reviews, blog posts etc. I have been hanging out in websites like parenttree where parents share their personal experiences. In her current school, we have only chosen for daycare. While that's one of the 'preferred schools' because they are highly economical and affordable for pocket, we didn't find it's worthy giving her pre schooling there. It was more like a temporary set up we had to come up with, until we find a good school for her.

Considering the high activity and fun oriented schooling she had in US, we won't be doing justice to her, if we prefer to send her to such a school. While they are highly economical, the quality of education is very low given the condition that she had a strong base. I would write about her current school, shortly. And planning to write my personal observations on many pre schools we visited so far. I am sure it would help some of the parents, like me.

  1. Hi
I am a parent of 2 year old also living in Hyderabad. Even though I agree that Indian Education stresses a lot on academics and books, lot has changed and mostly its in the outlook of parents.
My kid does go to Playschool at 2 because I felt she is ready and needs to socialise. She doesnt do anything but play in the school. :)
Look for Montessori/Waldorf systems of teaching. I think they'll suit your needs.THere are many such in Hyderabad
    :) Keep Posting

  2. Thank You for your comment Sirisha. Yes, I surely agree that the outlook of parents have changed a lot but I would still want to see more..:) Believe me, there are still schools who have exams in the preschool level and I even came across parents who complain that my child's school doesn't have exams at PP1.

I am quite interested in waldorf system but I guess waldorf is for schooling not merely for preschooling..:) anyways, I would discuss in coming posts..:)

    Thanks again!
