Home Remedies for Kids :: Tonsillitis

Occasionally, Liya gets a tonsillitis attack especially when there is an apparent drift in the weather. There are plenty of home remedies you find in the internet or learn from grannies. However, there is one single home medicine I tried, tested and found really helpful.

All you need is -  a cup of warm milk and a 1/4 spoon of turmeric powder. Adding a pinch of black pepper powder works wonders, if your child can stand its taste.

Mix the ingredients and feed your child. I have been said that it works well if given at bedtime. Since I do not want Liya to get up to pee many times through the night, I never tried at bedtime. She is give this recipe in the mornings when weather is really cold and always worked wonders for us.

Note:

  • I don't add black pepper powder since I found L can't stand raw pepper taste.
  • I use homemade turmeric powder and pepper powder only. I recommend to use organic ingredients since it  is given in the "raw" form.
  • I try this whenever I notice any change in Liya's throat, as a precaution.
I have read somewhere that squeezing lemon to warm water with a spoon of honey and sipping it often will help treat tonsillitis. However, according to Ayurveda, heating honey above 104°F is poisonous for body. So, I personally avoid adding honey in to anything warm/hot even if below 104°F.

Do you have any special recipe you tried and helped?
