Make Pompoms at home (no clover needed)

I said before,
I don't like spending money on crafts!
So, we use things homemade
as much as possible.
Does your child love pompoms?
Mine, of course!
We tried making some at home.
It isn't bad to try.
Here you go.
The good old way!

Picture 1: All You need
A cardboard box, a scissor and yarn

Picture 2: Cut two circles using cardboard.
Cut a small round hole in the middle of each circle as in picture 3.
(the bigger your circles, the bigger your pom pom will be)

Put the circles together (one on top of another), without any overlap.
Wind them with yarn, wind as closely you can.
*Mine isn't that perfect*
Lesson: Don't leave any space as I did. ;)
Continue until the circles are fully covered.
Draw scissor in between the circles.
Cut open the yarn around the outer edge.
Draw a long thread between the circles as seen in picture 7.
Tie it tight, very tight and firm!

Cut the cardboard as in 10.
Pull them apart.
Snip the threads with scissors, get it fluffy and perfect round.
Picture 13: You're there!
Ready for your craft projects!

We made a flower with pompom and an egg carton.
Oh, yet another egg carton recycling
See Liya in action, below!

Here is our finished flower project with homemade pompoms.
Try and have fun with little ones.

Happy Tuesday!

  1. I remember making lots of these when the kids were younger but they'd always get bored halfway through. Love the idea of making a flower from it! #letkidsbekids

    1. Thanks Christine. Guess what? She got bored half way too. Because, she doesn't get to do it. She is too young to use scissor that wisely. That's where I said her we're gonna make a flower out of it and she will get to paint. :)

    1. Thanks pixie. You can try with normal thread as well. But it's a tedious task. :)

  10. We tried these at Christmas but mine looked like number 12 - I din't think a bit more trimming and fluffing would make them look like no. 13 - great idea bout the flowers I need to find time to get O to make these for the nannies for mothers day :-)

    1. Yes, we need to trim it down to get a perfect round, otherwise it will not look nice. Mine isn't perfect either. My lil girl was in a hurry to get pompoms in her hand and do flower project. :)

  15. I haven't done this since I was a kid...oh my, it has been years. Yo know what I like...that regular crafting is making a comeback. I think kids really need to create things with their own hands and enjoy it.

    1. Salma, you're right. Otherwise, kids get bored. :) Looks like crafting is making a comeback. Hopefully it will prevail as long as my little girl is craftaholic. :)
