Book of the Week :: I can Help

Liya and I are happy to share our Story of the Week - I can Help, by David Hyde Costello.

Mommy Thoughts? I am sure the 'title' gives you a glint of the story. It is a cute and simple story which proves "a little help goes a long way". It is a perfect story to teach your child on the necessity of helping people around us, no matter who they are! Their color, caste, strength, size... nothing should be a barrier when we come across someone who is in need of help.

Book of the Week : : Goodnight Moon

Liya and I have been reading 'Good Night Moon' for past many days and more frequently in last week (as it was selected as Book of the Week by reading club). We often watched the video version in youtube as well.

Book of the Week :: Pizza in His Pocket

All those stories of children suffering around the globe is leaving me heartbroken. Those are the moments I personally realize that I have lost count on the umpteen blessings in my life. The photo of a mom and a baby frozen down to death in Syria and the news about 40 kids died from cold weather in a Refugee camp at Muzaffer Nagar  have really shaken me. That was the reason I picked the book Pizza in His Pocket: Learning to be Thankful to Allah as the book of the week. To tell my daughter how blessed we're in words that she would comprehend!

Book of the week :: Let's Say Hi to Friends Who Fly!

Let me share our reading experiences with Let's Say Hi to Friends Who Fly by Mo Willems.

Momma's thoughts...? It is a neat, illustration based and less text heavy book. It depicts a 'conversational' and 'action' based approach. 'Cat the Cat' goes to different friends asking how do they fly. Every friend is showing how it flies- it is sketched with dotted lines and the 'sound' of the friend is 'text-ed' on the line. And at the end of the story, there a big surprise... :)

This is an interesting read for early readers, I would recommend it for kids above 2.5- 3 years.

Book of the week ~ One Rainy Day

Today, we are going to share with you the happenings in 'One rainy day'. Well, you must be having a lot of things popping up in your mind when you hear RAIN. Liya, being a little girl didn't know much 'about' rain except that she always enjoyed it as pattering of water (vella vella in her language) everywhere.

Book of the Week : : Hello Hello

Like I mentioned in my previous post, Liya and I have been reading 'Hello Hello' by Miriam Schlein, through the week.

Why this book? During our trip to the local library, even though I came across several interesting books, I chose this book for a specific reason. I thought, it would be an excellent idea to 'introduce' few animals to Liya. She has been seeing few birds, dogs, and deers, but didn't know about other animals around.

Book of the week :: Catch the Bus

The Berenstain-Bears catch the bus is one of Liya's favorite books. She learned about the book from her previous school, last year during their story time around the theme "vehicles". Since then she was bugging me to buy one for herself. I could not find it in any local stores and she didn't have much info about the book other than the name. As usual, I searched in online book stores, listed all the books named "catch the bus" until she identified the cover page of the book she was talking eagerly about. Since then the antics of Berenstain bears have become a part of our life. For nearly a year, we have read the book so many times, nevertheless, it continues to be one of the "top reading" book in our reading list.

Liya was reading another amazing book through the week -"One Little, Two Little, Three Little Apples" by Matt Ringler and Anne Kennedy.

Book of The Week :: Is Camel a Mammal by Dr. Seuss

We have shared a good amount of toddler books here. Now that we are back nearly after a year, we will be specifically looking at preschooler's books. In Sha Allah (if god wills)!

Before we move on to the book of the week, let me tell you, we have been reading a lot over past year, as well. L is growing into a book addict day by day and so ours is still a No TV home. Book are brilliantly replacing TV at our home. We are piling up our little library with various books. L's topics of interest, likes, dislikes about books etc are very evident now. Any suggestion on good preschooler's books will be highly appreciated.

Book of the Week : : Brown Bear Brown Bear What do you See?

Hello All,
It's Wednesday- time to share our 'story reading' through the week. So, what were we reading this week? Well, it was 'Brown Bear Brown Bear What do you See?' - a picture book by Bill Martin Jr.

Mommy's take on the book?  It is a picture book designed to help kids (mainly toddlers) associate colors and names to particular objects. The book 'rhymes' as if asking to various animals 'what do they see..' with a response which links to another animal (mostly) and ending up with teacher and children. The characters in the rhyme are Brown Bear, Red Bird, Yellow Duck, Blue Horse, Green Frog, Purple Cat, White Dog, Black Sheep, a Goldfish, a teacher and students.
 

Book of the Week ~ Dog Wants to Play!

Let me introduce you another book, which Liya is fond of. The book is 'Dog wants to Play' by Christine McDonnell. 

About the book..? I picked it from West Seneca public library. Liya loves puppies and thought this would be an interesting read for her. I must say, my assumption was just right!

Book of the Week ~ Frosty the Snowman

Welcome to another 'Book of the Week'. Once again Liya and myself wholeheartedly apologize for not sharing 'story time' with you, for a few weeks. Our theme for the week is SNOW.
Well, snow seems to be fairly late to hit Buffalo this year, we hardly saw one or two of them. Just a plain winter compared to last year. But yes, we are loving it.

What's it all about?
Mr. Horse is very generous and blows a question 'Who wants a ride'? The barnyard friends-  a cat, a dog, a pig and a duck, were exhilarated by the stunning offer- and climbing aboard, one after another for a cruise ride on horse.

...and then?

Every one enjoys the feeling of getting twirled of tossed...Don't you?  The naughty friends feel that Mr.horse is not running really fast and they request to go a little faster!

The motive behind choosing this book is my discussion with Liya last week about the pollution in our country. Since she is very much concerned about doing something for the environment or worried about the country losing its face over dirty trashes, we decided to do something together.

We are glad to share one of our favorite online story on 'Little Red Riding Hood'. I'm sure you are already familiar with this European fairy tale about a young girl and a bad wolf. I've read somewhere that, this story has different versions, being told in different parts of the world, with conflicting climaxes.

Book of the Week :: Old MacDonald in the City

Let's have a glance at - Old MacDonald in the City by Suzanne Williams.
About the Book: The book rhymes around Old MacDonald, who is a food vendor in the city, who owns a pushcart to sell snacks in an urban park. Whenever Old MacD's back is turned, his cart is swarmed with animals. Increasing numbers of different animals, from one horse to ten ants, everyone tries to steal food from Old MacDonald's corner food cart. How sad!!!

Mice squeak, pigeons coo, squirrels chitter chatter, ants skiddle-skaddle, cats meow... all around the cart's tasty treat. OldMacD tries hard to stop them from stealing his goodies. Poor Guy!!!!!
